Hello. We would like to introduce our favorite photo spots in Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine known as one of the famous sightseeing spots in Kyoto.
What is Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine?
Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine of about 30,000 Inari shrines across Japan. In the 1300 years since its establishment in 711AD in the Nara period, people have gathered here to pray for bountiful harvests, business prosperity, the safety of their home and family and the fulfillment of all kinds of other wishes.
The shrine sits at the base of a small mountain also named Inari, and that mountains is considered as a sacred area. The torii gates were all offered by worshipers at the shrine. Fushimi Inari Taisha is known for many torii gates. Senbon torii are a symbol of Fushimi Inari Taisha; therefore, many people visit there.
Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine is about ‘Foxes’!
When you walk around in this shrine, you will see many ‘Foxes.’ Foxes are messengers of Inari god. You will find two statues of foxes, which are the right side of statue of fox with ball and the left side of statue of fox with key, in front of the gate. One of the highlights of walking in this shrine is to look for many kinds of foxes, messengers of Inari god. For example, there are the statues of fox with rice stalk and handscroll.
What is ‘Oyama-meguri’?
If you go to Fushimi Inari shrine, you should climb Inari-yama mountain which is a 233m-high holy mountain, not just seeing Torii gate. Climbing Mt. Inari is called ‘Oyama-meguri.’ The trail way is 4km long and it takes about 2 or 3 hours to walk around. Definitely, you can make unforgettable memory if you try ‘Oyama-meguri’!!
There are many highlights of spots. For example, you can take a torii gate photo in the calm place, you can breathe deeply in front of torii gate, and so on.

There were a few people because of coronavirus when I visited there from 13:00 to 15:00. I could take my time and enjoy Fushimi Inari shrine. But that’s sad. I wish everyone enjoys Kyoto as soon as possible.
