Nijo Castle (or nijojo) is a flatland castle in Kyoto, Japan. The castle consists of two concentric ring of fortifications, the Ninomaru Palace, the ruins of the Honmaru Palace, various support buildings and several gardens. The surface area of the castle is 275,000 square meters, of which 8,000 square meters is occupied by buildings.
It is 1 of the 17 Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto which have been designated as a World Heritage Site.
The most direct way there from Kyoto Station is to take any of the following 3 buses: 9 or 50 or 101 then drop off when they announce Nijojo Castle.
